As if the Pencil Cactus (technically a Euphorbia!) wasn’t already interesting enough, this variety produces colours ranging from traditional greens to bright flaming reds and oranges. The more sun this plant gets the more vibrant its colouring will become, giving it the appearance of a plant set on fire.
Though the Firestick Pencil Cactus can’t burn you, its sap is toxic to animals and irritating to human skin. We recommend wearing gloves when handling this plant and keeping it out of reach of pets and children.
LOCATION AND LIGHT:
Like most other members of the Euphorbia family of succulents, this is a HIGH LIGHT plant. Your Pencil Cactus will be happiest - and produce its most striking colours - with as much direct sun as possible, though will also tolerate BRIGHT INDIRECT light. A South or West-facing window is ideal placement for these plants.
WATER:
As with most succulents, the Pencil Cactus is drought tolerant and will not survive in overly-moist conditions. Allow its soil to dry out completely in between waterings to mimic the desert conditions in which this plant naturally grows.
