Can you believe it's a ficus?!
With its heart-shaped leaves and strong slender stems, Ficus Umbellata has a more whimsical look than most of the ficus we're used to. Luckily, its care is reliably the same. Umbellata is a HIGH LIGHT plant that will object to being moved around too much, but is low-maintenance in the right light.
LOCATION & LIGHT:
Ficus Umbellata will do best directly in front of an East-facing window or pulled back from a Southern or Western exposure. It can take a few hours of direct sun in the morning or afternoon, but doesn't want to be subjected to direct light for more than a few hours.
WATER:
Ficus Umbellata will happily dry out between waterings. Always make sure the top 25-30% of soil feels dry before giving your ficus a good, thorough drink. Drain any excess water sitting in the pot after watering, as to not leave your plant with "wet feet".
Ficus Umbellata appreciates the occasional misting, but is generally happy with the average humidity levels already found in our homes.
