Don’t be fooled by the name - this plant is neither a cactus nor a candy, though it certainly resembles both! This unusual succulent is actually a member of the milkweed family, and produces otherworldly star-shaped flowers with centers that look more than a little like a grape lifesaver! As the Lifesaver Cactus matures it will begin to trail, making it a unique addition to shelves and hanging planters alike.
LOCATION AND LIGHT:
Like most succulents and cacti, the Lifesaver Cactus will do best when given access to a fair amount of sun. While these plants appreciate some amount of DIRECT LIGHT, prolonged direct sun may sometimes lead to scorching. They will do just fine in generous BRIGHT INDIRECT LIGHT. A spot in a West or unobstructed East-facing window, or slightly pulled back from a South-facing window will make a great home for this species.
WATER:
Like cacti, succulents thrive in dry, gritty soil. They’re sustained largely through the water retained by their leaves, and thus need less frequent water than many other plants. Succulents are sensitive to root rot and will not tolerate excess moisture, so allow all soil in the pot to dry out completely between waterings.
