“FEED ME, SEYMOUR!”

While this plant may not be as blood-thirsty as its fictional “Little Shop of Horrors'' cousin Audrey, it is quite literally carnivorous. Straight out of a sci-fi movie or H.G Wells story, there are over 100 species of pitcher plants - all of which have evolved to lure, catch, and consume small insects as a means of fertilization. We don’t think they’re likely to come after you next, but you can never be too careful...

LOCATION AND LIGHT:

Carnivorous plants typically thrive with a generous amount of sun, and pitcher plants are no exception. These plants will appreciate DIRECT to BRIGHT INDIRECT LIGHT. Make your pitcher plant a comfortable home in a South, West, or unobstructed East-facing window.

WATER:

Often naturally found in bog-like environments, pitcher plants will appreciate soil that is consistently moist, though never soggy. Misting can be beneficial to these plants to help mimic their natural growing conditions, and they should be thoroughly watered when the top layer of soil is dry to the touch. Allow excess water to drain to avoid root rot!
